When it comes to writing, there is so much we want (and need) to teach our students. However, we cannot focus on all of it all at once or we will cause our students to hate writing. I have broken this down into easy to implement lesson plans and have included all of the materials you need. This unit can be implemented at an easy pace—spread out over four weeks, or can be condensed to be taught in a shorter time period.

If you choose to have your whole class write on the same topic, this informational unit even includes 2 non-fiction texts that can be used for student research. (Topic: The Solar System). However, you can also use this unit with your own topic or by letting students choose topics.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐I like how this resource broke down information writing into step by step instructions to help me teach my students how to write an easy. It wasn’t overwhelming for students. It came piece by piece and they learned how to write the essay. Awesome resource. Thant you for sharing!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This was a great resource to supplement our reading program’s weak writing component. The sequence of lessons really helps students to write an informational piece. The hands on sorts are engaging and the informational pieces help students to see what informational writing looks like. The resource also addressed reliable sources which is so important for students to know when researching.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐A really great resource broken down so that planning is easy and students are engaged.
