Make teaching volume fun with this 5th grade hands-on math unit! 5th Grade math standards 5.MD.3, 5.MD.4, and 5.MD.5 are covered. In this two-week-long volume unit, your students will learn about
- volume as cubic units,
- finding the volume of irregular figures by counting units,
- calculating the volume of rectangular prisms,
- finding the length of a missing side,
- finding volume by multiplying the area of the base by the height,
- and using addition to calculate the volume of a composite figure.
- They’ll also solve volume word problems.

5th Grade Guided Math units are recommended for small group, targeted instruction, but also can be used in a whole group format.
